Rebuild the IconCache in Windows 10

I turned on my computer this morning and a weird icon showed as the default icon for nearly all the application in the Start Menu.

Resolution 1

Navigate to:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

Select an item in the folder view by clicking on the item.

Press Ctrl+alt+A to select all items in the folder.

Press delete.

Close folder.

Restart the computer

Open the Start Menu up, this should resolve the issue.

If it does not resolve the issue proceed to the next resolution.

Resolution 2

Open an elevated command prompt.

Type the following:
cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
attrib –h iconcache_*.db
del iconcache_*.db
start explorer

Restart the computer.

Now open the Start Menu to see if this resolves the issue.

If this does not resolve the issue proceed to resolution 3.

Resolution 3

Let's try deleting the Thumbnail Cache.

Open an elevated command prompt.

Type the following:
cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
attrib –h thumbcache_*.db
del thumbcache_*.db
start explorer

Reboot computer.

Now open the Start Menu to see if this resolves the issue.
